This is part of a farm on the lower part of a volcano, surrounded by the clouds at more than 6,000 feet above sea level. Above the town of Banos, this is pretty low altitude compared to Quito or Cuenca, Ecuador. There was no need for altitude change remedies for this northeast united states girl. I got along just fine without pills.
In the background of the cover photo, you can just barely see through the clouds, the crest of another mountain (or volcano) across the divide where the town resides below. There are farms all over these mountains. The land is fertile, the climate is perfect for growing things. Some of the farms are vertical and run up the steep sides of the incline. I caught my breath just thinking about the thigh muscles of these farmers 🙂
